 Wood Harvesting and Utilization
Majority of wood harvesting in Govt. Forests of the State is carried out by Production wing of Haryana Forest Department. However the wood harvesting work in some of the districts is entrusted to Haryana Forest Development Corporation as well. Annual harvesting of wood from Govt. forests in the State is to the tune of 1.50 lac standing cubic meters. The species generally harvested are Eucalyptus, Kikar, Shisham, Tortilis, Khair and some miscellaneous species.

Species-wise volume felled (cubic meters) during last 8 years

They are harvested at different rotation age. The rotation age of Eucalyptus, Kikar and Shisham are 10, 16 and 45 years respectively, while Khair is harvested when the trees cross the diameter of 30 cms. Most of the fellings consist of salvage fellings of dead and dry trees. The harvesting operations are mostly manual in nature. Efforts are on to introduce mechanized harvesting operations in future.
