Wildlife week celebrated |
Panchkula, October 6th, 2009: Haryana becomes the first state in the country to
declare the eco-sensitive zones in the country around each and every national
park and wildlife sanctuary. This was stated by Dr. Maha Singh Financial
Commissioner and Secretary to govt. of Haryana, Forest Department. He was
speaking as chief guest on the occasion of wildlife week celebrated here today.
He said that Govt. of Haryana was committed to the conservation of wildlife in
the state and declaration of eco-sensitive zone around each protected area
(National Parks, Wildlife Sanctuaries and Conservation Reserves) is a right step
in this direction. He said that some restrictions like construction, mining,
establishing of polluting industries, brick kilns, querying, stone crushers and
digging of tubewells have been restricted and will be regulated as per the local
conditions prevailing around that particular protected area. He called upon the
people living around national parks and wildlife sanctuaries to cooperate the
Forest Department in protection of wildlife habitat. He also ensured people that
govt. will provide every possible help to the people in this regard in lieu of
the cooperation rendered by the people. While speaking on the occasion Mr. Maha
Singh said that nature has taken a very long time to evolve a species and any
attempt to disturb the natural balance will threaten the very existence of life
on the planet earth. He said that human being (Homo sapiens) is one species out
of estimated range of 84 lakhs to 30 millions species. Just for one species
ethically and morally we have no right to disturb the delicate balance evolved
over millions of years. Therefore, we have to keep a balance between the
development and conservation of nature for continuance of life on the planet.

extinction. He said that Great Indian Bustard which used to be in large number
in the western part of Haryana is now extinct from Haryana and is now restricted
to Rajasthan, Gujrat and Maharashtra. He cautioned that if we do not reverse the
process of degradation of environment and improve the habitat for the wildlife
we will see only the photographs of some species like vultures, leopard, tiger
etc. in the near future as we can see only the photos of Hunting Cheetah, Pink
Headed Duck, Mountain Quail, Brow Antlered Deer and Hangul.
